Minnie Doeksen

January 3, 1922 - March 29, 2015

Minnie Doeksen age 93 of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday April 3, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Dan Kordahl officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Visitation will be Thursday April 2nd from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Minnie Helen Doeksen was born January 3, 1922 in Worthington, Minnesota, to Harm and Anna (Veen) Nanninga. Minnie attended country school through the eighth grade. On August 24, 1951 she was united in marriage to Garrit "Duke" Doeksen in Worthington, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Sibley until Duke was transferred with his job to Rock Rapids where they continued to live and care for their family together.

They were married for 47 years until death separated them when Duke passed away on January 20, 1998. Minnie was a homemaker and her legacy was caring for others. She did this in many ways. She gave unconditional love and care to her father in law, William Doeksen, her father Harm Nanninga and her husband Duke as they needed help. She raised her step children, her children, her grandchildren and countless others. Even in her final years in the care center, Minnie continued to care for others in need.

She did it all out of christian love without expecting anything in return. Her family will remember her as a feisty woman with a wonderful sense of humor and a mom, grandma, great grandma and great-great grandma who loved them. She not only cared for her family but for others as well. Minnie was a great cook and her family will forever remember the wonderful food that came from her kitchen, especially her home baked bread and birthday pies. She entered the Rock Rapids Health Centre on February 10, 2009 and this past Sunday, Minnie passed away at the age of 93.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Doeksen Sorken of Reno, Nevada, Betty "Janie" (Kenneth) Doeksen Deuschle of Kansas City, Missouri, and Debra (Doug) Doeksen Gould of Newcastle, WyomingY; son, Terry Doeksen of Grand Junction, CO; 10 grandchildren, Wendy, Kim, Michael, Kendra, Kathy, Tim, Scott, Kayleigh, Stephanie and William; 14 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; brother, John DeLong of Morris, MN; and sister, Elsie (Al) Iverson of Morris, MN.

Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Duke; and great granddaughter, Darcie Deuschle.
