Arthur Jans “Art” Timmer was born January 21, 1930 in Ward, South Dakota to Jake and Esther (Christians) Timmer. He was raised and educated by Rock Rapids, Iowa, attending country school.

On February 27, 1952 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Ohling at Gertrude’s parents’ home in Midland Township Lyon County, Iowa. The young couple first made their home near Rock Rapids, and in November of 1952, they moved to a farm four miles north of Little Rock, Iowa, where they lived for over 60 years. In September of 2013 they retired and moved to their present home in Ellsworth, Minnesota.

Art was a farmer his entire life. He was especially proud of his red Holstein dairy cattle. Art was a lifelong member of Bethel Reformed Church. He was very proud of his family and always more concerned about his children and grandchildren than he was about himself. Family meant everything to Art.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Esther Timmer; sister, Lorenza Kruse; son-in-law, Kelly Bosma; parents-in-law, Klaus and Jennie Ohling; sister-in-law, Shirley Timmer; and brother-in-law Jim Kruse.
