Little Rock, Iowa - Kenneth “Ken” E. Meester age 83 of Little Rock, died Saturday March 14, 2015 at Sibley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Sibley, Iowa.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 18th at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, with Rev. Scott Burdsall officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 17th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock.

Kenneth Eugene Meester was born on July 25, 1931, in Ellsworth, MN, the son of Joseph and Matilda (Rosenberg) Meester. He grew up in the Ellsworth area and attended school there. Ken attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD for one year. On December 6, 1950, he enlisted in the United State Navy and was stationed at Moffett Field in Sunnyvale, CA. He served aboard the USS Jupiter during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on October 6, 1954 with a rank of Aviation 3rd Class.

Ken was united in marriage to Lorraine Hickman on July 25, 1952 at the Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth, MN. The couple made their home in San Jose, CA during Ken’s service years and after his military service they moved to Little Rock, Iowa.

He owned and operated Little Rock Oil Company, Ken’s Appliance and Ken’s Skelly Station. Ken was a member of the Salem Reformed Church, where he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a charter member of the Buss-Johnson American Legion Post 316 for sixty years. He also served on the City Council and Fire Department in Little Rock for a number of years. Ken was an avid sports fan and loved to watch the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings on TV. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing with and teasing his grandchildren. His favorite pastime was fishing.

Ken is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Lorraine Meester of Little Rock; two children, Randall (Janell) Meester of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Lori (Kevin) Huisman of Sioux Center, IA; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Arlene Hansen and Margaret Nelson.
