March 24, 1927 - February 12, 2015

Inwood, Iowa - Lila Grotjohn, 87, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Inwood, died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre. Visitation, with the family present, will be Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Porter Funeral Home at Inwood from 2:00-3:00 p.m. with private family burial to follow at Christ Lutheran Cemetery at Alvord. Lila Marie (Bunde) Grotjohn, daughter of Melvin and Mabel (Hanson) Bunde, was born March 24, 1927 at Dell Rapids, South Dakota. She attended Lyons High School at Lyons, South Dakota.

On October 19, 1948, Lila was united in marriage with Dale Grotjohn at Luverne, Minnesota. Together the couple farmed northeast of Inwood where Lila raised chickens and was a homemaker. Dale and Lila lived on the farm until 2006, when she moved to Little Rock. They loved dancing every Saturday night at the Arkota Ballroom at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Dale died on May 31, 2009. In 2011, Lila moved to Rock Rapids Health Centre. Lila was a great cook and people especially enjoyed her apple pie.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Inwood where she taught 1st grade Sunday School. Lila enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, word finds, thumbing through magazines and recipe books and she loved her cats.

Lila is survived by her son, Jim (Cindy) Grotjohn of Inwood; four daughters, Judy Kerkvliet of Rock Rapids; Carol Rosenboom of Little Rock; Marcene (Clark) Ahders of Rock Rapids; and Paula Grotjohn of Rock Valley; nine grandchildren, Tami Clark, Tadd Kerkvliet, Kathryn Rosenboom, Judd Rosenboom, Alex Ahders, Austin Ahders, Adam Grotjohn, Nathan Grotjohn, and Stephanie Grotjohn; five great-grandchildren, Dylan, Mariah, and Macy Clark, Taylor and Kyler Kerkvliet; brother, Rollie Bunde of Madison, South Dakota; sister, Audrey (Larry) Poppens of Chancellor, South Dakota and sister-in-law, Marlene Bunde of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Lila was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Mabel Bunde; husband, Dale Grotjohn; daughter, Susan Grotjohn; son-in-law, Steve Rosenboom; two brothers, Jerry and David Bunde and sister-in-law, Ann Bunde.
