Marven Van Noort

May 11, 1926 - February 8, 2015

Sioux Falls, South Dakota - Marven Van Noort, age 88 of Sioux Falls, and formerly of George, Iowa, died Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Center in Sioux Falls.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday February 11th at Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, with Rev. Obed Nelson officiating.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, Iowa.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 11th from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.

In lieu of Flowers memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.

Marven Van Noort was born May 11, 1926 on a farm near Fairview, South Dakota, the son of Gerrit and Agnes W. (Van Der Ven) Van Noort. He was raised on a farm and attended country school. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps on April 25, 1946 and received his honorable discharge on July 31, 1947. He moved to a farm near Stickney, South Dakota, where he farmed and also worked as a welder.

Marven was united in marriage to Rosanna Carlson on September 8, 1950 at Chamberlain, South Dakota. Together they lived near Stickney until 1962, when they moved to Hawarden, Iowa, for a short time before moving to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he worked as a welder for Swartz Manufacturing and later Kolman-Athey Manufacturing.

They returned to Stickney and farming in 1968 until 1976 when they returned to Sioux Falls. In 1989, Marven retired from Kolman-Athey and they moved to George, Iowa. In 2004, they returned once again to Sioux Falls, to be closer to family.

Marven was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. He was also member of V.F.W. Post #628 and American Legion Post #15 in Sioux Falls. He enjoyed monthly breakfast with the retirees from Kolman-Athey, V.F.W. men’s stag meetings, playing solitaire, camping and fishing with his wife and family. He will be remembered as loving husband, father and grandfather, who had the knack for fabricating anything.

He is survived by his wife of 64 1/2 years, Roseanna Van Noort of Sioux Falls; four children: Diana (Alvin) Andera and Norma (Steven) Schrank, both of Mitchell, South Dakota, Gerry (Charlene) Van Noort of Sioux Falls, and Myron Van Noort (special friend, Angela Schroeder) Yankton, South Dakota; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two brothers, Bernard Van Noort of Sioux Falls, and Gerrit “Smokey” (Sharon) Van Noort of Hawarden, Iowa; three sisters, Nancy De Boer and Agnes Wulf, both of Hawarden, Iowa, and Clara Bruinsma of Stickney, South Dakota; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Carlson of Alcester, South Dakota; two sisters-in-law, Minnie Van Noort of Danville, Indiana, and Ruby Carlson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerrit and Agnes Van Noort; two brothers, Jake and William Van Noort; and two sisters, Anna Marie Overweg and Doris De Bruin.
