February 1, 1938 - February 2, 2015

Rock Rapids, Iowa - Genevive “Gen” Haviland, age 77, of Rock Rapids, died Monday, February 2, 2015, at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Rock Rapids.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 6th at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Charles Boeder officiating.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, Iowa.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 5th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Genevive Theresa Haviland was born February 1, 1938, at the family farm near Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Goldhorn) Hansmann. She attended country school near her home until she attended and graduated from George High School in 1956. Gen was united in marriage to Robert Haviland on October 14, 1956, at the Peace Lutheran Church, in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Robert and Genevive lived their entire married life on the Lakewood Corner, six miles south of Rock Rapids. Gen was a homemaker and worked with her husband on the family dairy and crop farm.

Her husband, Robert, passed away on July 26, 2011. Gen was an active member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, belonged to the quilting ladies group who made quilts weekly. Her interests included family, sewing, crafts, canning, and scrapbooking. Every year, she devoted her time with Peace Lutheran VBS helping children with crafts. Attending her grandchildren’s sporting, musical and school events was a highlight of her life.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Larry (Kristy) Haviland of Geneseo, Illinois; foster daughter, ReNae (Kenny) Leuthold of Rock Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren, Kelli (Jaime) of Houston, Texas, Lyndsy of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Adam (Rachel) of Kansas City, Missouri, Nathan (Janelle) Leuthold of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jason and McKenzie Leuthold at home in Rock Rapids; close family friends, Blitsch-Noonan family of Lennox, South Dakota; brother-in-law, John Buss; sisters-in-law, Donna Hansmann and Elaine Jenkins; brother-in-law, Jim Haviland; and sister-in-law, Wanda Haviland; and other extended family members.

Gen was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Margaret Hansmann; husband, Robert; daughter, Carlene Roberta Haviland; son, Daryl Dean Haviland; grandson, Jon Robert all in infancy; sisters, Glenda Buss and Dallis Deutsch; and brothers, Art, Delbert and Waldo Hansmann.
