Lonnie Gene Zell

October 7, 1933 - February 2, 2015

Rock Rapids, Iowa - Lonnie Zell, age 81 of Rock Rapids, died on Feb 2, 2015 at the Sanford Senior Care Center, Sheldon, Iowa, after suffering a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Graveside services will be at a later date in Ashton, SD.

Lonnie Zell was born on October 7, 1933 in Ashton, South Dakota, to parents, John Zell and Flora Bymers. Lonnie was a Korean veteran and after serving over 20 years of service, retired as Tech Sergeant from the United States Air Force. He traveled to many countries including: Korea, Japan, Germany, Italy and Taiwan.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Deb Zell/Ver Meer of Rock Rapids, Iowa; son, Alan L. Zell (wife Lynn) of Jacksonville, North Carolina; son, Donald K. Zell (wife Cindy) of Sartell, MN; daughter, Debra A. Mejia/Zell (husband Gary) of Graham, Washington; daughter, Cynthia G. Zielinski/Zell of Mariana, Arizona; step daughter, Tonya McCormick (husband Bryan) of Commerce, Georgia; and step daughter, Teisa Nicole (husband Jean) of S. Africa along with nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his first wife, Lenora J. Zell, brother, Philip Zell and sister Bessie Koester.
