Life Legacy--

Rock Rapids, Iowa -- Deana Fluit, 70, of Rock Rapids, died Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Sanford-Rock Rapids Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation with Rev. E. C. Adams officiating.

Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Condolences for the family may be left online at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Deana Mae Fluit was born May 21, 1944 in Hull, Iowa, to Sam P. and Gertrude (Post) Westra. She graduated from Boyden-Hull High School. On November 22, 1963, Deana married Henry Fluit Jr. in Hull. Together they dairy farmed near Lester, Iowa until Henry passed away in 2002. She then moved to Rock Rapids. Deana worked as a cook at the Lyon Manor in Rock Rapids for 29 years, until she retired 4 years ago. Deana was a member of the Hillside Circle in Lester.

Deana enjoyed fishing, vegetable and flower gardens, canning pickles, and making the best chocolate chip cookies. Deana was a social butterfly and loved to visit with people but her greatest joys came when she was spending time with her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Terry Fluit of Rock Rapids, Paul (Sue) Fluit of Larchwood, Iowa, and Lori (Todd) Rath of Rock Rapids; brothers, Stan (JoAnn) Westra, Don (Joey) Westra, Gary Westra, and Wes (Brenda) Westra all of Hull, Iowa; sister-in-law, Beth Westra of Fulda, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren, Rebekah (fiancé, Bryan Hakeman) Fluit, Angela (Ethan) McKenney, Diana Fluit, Julia Fluit, Jordyn Rath, Charley Rath, and Lane Rath; and 1 step-granddaughter, Britny Rath;

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry, Jr.; siblings, Dwayne Westra and Arlene Westra; sister-in-law, Hilene Westra; nephew, Mitchell Westra; and great-niece, Sarah Woitalewicz.
