Emma Brinkhous, 88, of Rock Rapids died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Services were Friday at Peace Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in Hillside Cemetery, Doon.

Emma Lange was born May 27, 1916, near Rock Valley, the daughter of Emil and Marie (Behrman) Lange. She graduated from Rock Valley High School and taught in country schools.
In 1939, she married Kenneth Brinkhous in Doon. They farmed near Doon 30 years. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Northwestern College and a master of arts degree from University of South Dakota. She taught school 29 years, including first and fifth grades in Boyden-Hull and special education in Sioux Center. The couple retired to Rock Rapids in 1980.

Her husband died in 1991. She became a resident of Lyon Manor in November 2002.

At Doon First Congregational Church, she was a member of Guild and Women's Club. At Peace Lutheran Church, she was a member of Ladies Aid. She was a member of NEA and ISEA.

Survivors include one son, Tony of Doon; one daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Marjorie) Haken of Worthington, Minn.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Emil of Rock Valley, and one sister, Elsie Lohman of Rock Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Carl, and two sisters, Freda Rehder and Anna Benson.
