Albert Van Den Top, 80, of Doon died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Avera-McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services were Tuesday at Protestant Reformed Church, Doon, with interment in Hillside Cemetery.

Mr. Van Den Top was born April 7, 1923, near Doon, the son of Jacob and Minnie (Burgraff) Van Den Top. He served in the army air force from 1943-45.

On Feb. 21, 1947, he married Rika Maassen in Rock Valley. They farmed near Alvord four years. In 1952, they began farming near Lynden, Wash. After 12 years, they moved back to the Rock Valley-Doon area where he worked for Kooima Machine Co., until retiring in 1989 to farm near Doon.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Gerald of Doon; five daughters, Mrs. John (Jean) Wynia and Mrs. Wesley (Hester) DeGroot of Doon, both of Doon, Mrs. Robert (Geraldine) Blankespoor of George, Mrs. Ronald (Deborah) Hoksbergen of Hull and Sharon Van Den Top of Rock Valley; 36 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and four brothers, Gerrit and Elmer, both of Rock Valley, and Minard and Peter, both of Doon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Marlene Alsum; great-granddaughter, Erica Fykstra, and three brothers, William, Andy and John.
