George, Iowa - Charlie Harms, age 74 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Tucson, Arizona, and formerly of George, Iowa, died Monday, October 27, 2014 at The Medical Center of Plano in Plano, Texas, with his three children by his side.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday November 4, 2014 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, Iowa, with Rev. Paul Soderquist officiating. Burial will be private with family in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

Visitation will be Monday November 3rd from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Charlie Samuel Harms was born August 21, 1940 in George, Iowa to Winfred and Gladys (Christensen) Harms. He was raised on the farm, where he learned early the value of hard work. As a young man, he became a skilled trap-shooter, and won the Junior National Championship in 1956.
His early education was in George, graduating with the class of 1958, and higher education was at the University of South Dakota.

On January 19, 1962 Charlie was united in marriage to Faye Fisher in Little Rock, Iowa. The couple began their lives and started their family in George, Iowa. A lot of fond memories grew out of time spent at Lake Okoboji, in the summers.

The family lived in Princeton, Illinois, from ’71 to ’79 and Waverly, Iowa from ’79 to ’85. Charlie and Faye lived in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, from ’85 to ’90, then moving to Moberly, Missouri. During this time, Charlie’s beloved wife Faye lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2000, after 38 years of marriage.

Charlie worked for Siebring Manufacturing from 1961 to 1971, then Hawkeye Steel from 1971 until 1985. Charlie owned and operated his own Sales/Manufacturing business, Charlie Harms Corporation, until his retirement in 2002.

Though he maintained a strong connection with the Midwest, Charlie retired in 2002 and wintered in Tucson, Arizona, where he thoroughly enjoyed the sun, his friendships and community. He had an exceptional gift for conversation. He was an avid golfer and experienced the joy of a hole-in-one in 2014. He traveled around the country in his fifth-wheel trailer, and became ill near Plano, TX on his return from one of those trips. He will be greatly missed.

Charlie is survived by son, Bob (Toni) Harms of Palos Heights, Illinois; daughter, Kelly (Brian) Sutton of Waverly, Iowa; son, Mike (Missy) Harms of Glenview, Illinois; two granddaughters, Stefanie Sutton of Des Moines, Iowa and Jenni Sutton of Winterset, Iowa; sister, Patsy Clark of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, niece, Niki Clark of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Faye; his parents, Win and Gladys Harms; his brother-in-law Randy Clark and his aunt Lolly Perrault.
