Larchwood, Iowa - Loren Krier, age 88, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died Friday October 24, 2014 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 28th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, Iowa, with Father Bruce Lawler officiating.

Burial will follow at the Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood, Iowa.

Visitation will be Monday, October 27th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. Also there will be a Vigil service held at 7:00 PM Monday evening at the church.

Loren Krier

March 3, 1926 - October 24, 2014

Larchwood, Iowa - Loren Krier, age 88 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died Friday October 24, 2014, at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.

Loren Krier was born March 3, 1926 in Emery, South Dakota, to Paul and Clara (Kramer) Krier. In 1940, the family moved to Larchwood, Iowa, where they farmed. Loren also served in the United States Army toward the end of World War II. After his discharge from the Army, Loren worked as a delivery truck driver for Grain Belt Beer.

In 1962 Loren married Pat (Kleine) Krier and they made their home in Larchwood. Then in 1964, they moved from Larchwood to Beresford, SD where they owned and operated an auto parts store. Loren was active in the community, and was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. After he retired from the auto parts industry, Loren worked as a part-time rural mail carrier and managed the VFW/Legion in Beresford.

In 2008, Loren & Pat made their home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Loren soon became a member of Active Generations in Sioux Falls and spent many hours there visiting and playing cards with his friends. Loren loved his family very much and was a wonderful father and grandfather. He was an avid reader and a faithful Minnesota Twins fan. Loren and Pat recently became members of The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. This past Friday, Loren passed away and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Krier of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughters, Julie Thiesse of Tea, South Dakota and Rhonda (Stanford) Peterson of Beresford, South Dakota; son, Tom (Rosanne) Krier of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; brother, Gary (Bonnie) Krier of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sister, Karen Viereck of Larchwood, Iowa; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jeffrey Peterson; four brothers: Bud, Don, Jim and Bob; two sisters, Ruth Snyders and Dorothy Bjerk.
