Biography--

Willemina Den Besten, age 88, of Alvord, Iowa, died Monday, October 13, 2014, at Whispering Heights at Rock Valley.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Netherlands Reformed Congregation at Rock Valley, with Rev. P.L. Bazen officiating. Burial will be held prior to the service at Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley. Visitation with family present will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home at Rock Valley. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com .

Willemina was born September 21, 1926 near Alvord, Iowa, daughter of Leendert and Willemina (Rozeboom) Klarenbeek. Willemina married John Den Besten on January 14, 1947 at Rock Valley. Together they first farmed near Madison, South Dakota, 1950 near Rock Valley, and 1952 near Alvord. They retired to Doon, Iowa in 1976. Willemina worked as an aid at Valley Manor at Rock Valley for 25 years, was a Foster Grandparent for 11 years, and enjoyed sewing aprons and quilts. John died on June 12, 1987. Willemina moved to Alvord in March of 2013 to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.

Willemina is survived by her daughter, Linda (Ed) Van Der Brink of Alvord, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Keith (Cheryl) Van Der Brink, Scott (Amy) Van Der Brink, Beth Schemmel, Dan (Jeanie) Maae, Mark (Angie) Den Besten, Tyler (Samatha) Den Besten, Chantel Den Besten; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Gerrit (Geneva) Klarenbeek, Clarence (Mary Ann) Klarenbeek all of Rock Valley; sisters, Gertrude Koedam of Rock Valley, Jennie (John) Keizer, Elizabeth (Gary) Dokter all of Sioux Center, Ann (Jim) Wielenga of Hull, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Adrianna Klarenbeek of Inwood, Iowa, and Jennie Klarenbeek of Sheldon, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; son and his wife, Harlan and Kathy Den Besten; brothers, Ray, Dick, William, and Lane Klarenbeek; sisters-in-law, Dora and Lillian Klarenbeek; brothers-in-law, William Koedam and Thomas Kooima.
