Kenneth Gregersen, 94, of Sioux Falls passed away, Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital.

He was born July 9, 1918 in rural Lyon County, near Inwood, IA; he was the son of Peter and Clara (Christensen) Gregersen. He grew up on a farm near Inwood and attended Lyon County School. Ken enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and served as a soldier in the European Theatre, fighting at the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle at Remagen Bridge. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

He returned home and was united in marriage to Audrey Bent in October 1948 in Canton.

They made their home in Sioux Falls where he worked as a warehouse foreman for Gamble Robinson Wholesale Food Service for over 45 years retiring in 1995.

He was a member of Asbury Methodist Church since 1950 where he served as an usher, greeter and volunteer. He was a member of the V.F.W. and was a volunteer at the Veterans Administration and he was honored to be selected to fly on the first Honor Flight out of South Dakota. He also enjoyed the yearly Army reunions of the 3rd Field Artillery Unit held at Ft. Riley, KS. He worked at the Ramada Limited Motel in maintenance and as a courtesy driver.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children: Jackie (Warren) Kramer, Sioux Falls, Debra (Arnie) Schmeichel, Sioux Falls, son, Douglas (Kristi) Gregersen, Brandon 7 grandchildren, Andrea (Justin) Parliament, Brent (Megan) Schmeichel, Troy (Julia) Kramer, Mike (Brittany) Kramer, Kasey Kramer, Nicole Gregersen, and Lisa Gregersen and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bennie, 2 sisters, Ellen and Pearl and 2 great granddaughters, Samantha and Gabriella.

A memorial service will begin at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place prior to the service at the Worthing Cemetery.
