March 14, 1930 - August 31, 2014

La Vonne Vande Velde, 84, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley.

Funeral service will be Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Reformed Church of Rock Valley. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation, with family present, will be 6-8 pm Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Winona La Vonne was born March 14, 1930 at Inwood, Iowa, the daughter of Pete and Winnie (Gerritsen) Boscaljon. She married Pete Vande Velde on January 1, 1947 at Inwood. La Vonne and Pete lived in Rock Valley, Iowa where they raised the family and La Vonne worked as a waitress at the Stable and later she owned the business.

Pete died February 20, 2006. La Vonne loved life and enjoyed playing jokes on many of her friends and family. She also enjoyed going to church at the Lighthouse, gardening and horse racing with family at area tracks, county fairs, and the Iowa State Fair.

She is survived by her daughter, Lori (Robert) Boogerd of Rock Valley; sons, Mark Vande Velde of Rock Valley, Craig Vande Velde of Orlando, Florida, Jeff (Pat) Vande Velde of Tishomingo, Mississippi; daughter-in-law, Diane Vande Velde McDaniel of Spearfish, South Dakota; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Wanda (Milo) Olson, Marlis (Stan) Garman both of Larchwood, Iowa, Gloria (Rus) Stewig of Redwood Falls, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Margaret Van Otterloo and Gert Vander Velde both of Rock Valley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Winnie; husband, Pete; son, Randy Vande Velde; brother-in-law, Marty Vander Velde; sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Gerritsen and Janet Kruizenga.
