Margaret Witt, 87, of Rock Rapids died Monday, May 3, 2004, at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital, Rock Rapids.

Services were Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in Riverview Cemetery.

Margaret Hartung was born July 31, 1916, at Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Arthur and Sybilla (Bohlig) Hartung. She attended school in Wisner, Neb., until the family moved to rural Alvord where she graduated at age 16. She was employed at JCPenney Store and later Dr. Wubbena's office, both in Rock Rapids. She then attended North West Institute in Minneapolis, Minn., graduating as a registered medical technician in 1964. She returned to Rock Rapids and rejoined Dr. A.C. Wubbena's medical practice as a laboratory technician. In 1949, she became administrator at the hospital and did laboratory work for both Dr. Wubbena and the hospital until November 1955. She also attended night classes for general electric X-ray training. In August 1958, she set up the laboratory in the new Rock Rapids hospital and began working in the laboratory and X-ray department in August 1960.

She was active in Scouting, Junior Women's Club and VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen Witt of Phoenix, Ariz., and one brother, William of Rock Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Webster Witt; one brother, Arthur Jr., and one sister, Charlotte Hartung
