George, Iowa - Eunice Lenderts, age 89 of George, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Sibley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sibley, Iowa.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Lyon County First Presbyterian Church of rural George, with Rev. Paul Fischer officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, August 8th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Eunice Jane (Behrends) Lenderts was born January 20, 1925 at rural George, Iowa, to Dick and Fanna (Willemssen) Behrends. She attended and completed her schooling at Dale No. 4 country school.

Eunice was a great help to her father as she was growing up on the farm, especially handling the horses while putting up hay. As a young girl she took two years of piano lessons. Those lessons and her love of God and music served her well for the rest of her life. She began playing piano for church services at the age of 14 and continued playing for services, Jr. and Sr. Choirs, and special events for many years until she was no longer able.

On February 16, 1943 Eunice was united in marriage to Orval Lenderts. They began their married life together on a farm near Matlock, Iowa, where Eunice helped her husband farm. After one year, they moved to her family farm southeast of George, where they were blessed and raised their two children, Gerald and Elvina. In 1983, they retired to a nearby acreage until due to health decline, they moved to Sibley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2010.

Eunice was a lifetime member of Lyon County First Presbyterian Church of rural George. She was an active member of the church Dorcas Society all her adult years. Church was very important to her and her love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life.

Eunice enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, word puzzles, and reading. However, she thoroughly enjoyed bowling and was an avid bowler on a women’s league for many years. Eunice dearly loved her family very much and treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 71 years, Orval Lenderts of Sibley, Iowa; daughter, Elvina (Lynn) Van Meeteren of George, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Harriet Lenderts of Sibley, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Steven Lenderts and special friend Tanya of Sibley, Brian (Angie) Lenderts of Johnston, Iowa, Heath (Amanda) Van Meeteren of George, Iowa, Aaron (Joni) Lenderts of Baltic, SD, Melissa (Randy) Vaupel of Sibley, Iowa, and Jerry (Lori) Lenderts of Papillion, Nebraska; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gerald Lenderts; sisters, Frances Timmer, Loraine Chadwick, and infant sister, Leona.
