Vernon D Stoefen – November 28, 1908 – April 17, 1992

Vernon Stoefen, 83, of 3900 S. Terry Avenue, Sioux Falls, died Friday, April 17, 1992, at the Dell Rapids Community Hospital.

Vernon Stoefen was born November 28, 1908, at Inwood, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Clara Stoefen. He grew up on a farm near Inwood and graduated from Inwood High School.

He moved to Dell Rapids in 1929, and on March 26, 1934, he was married to Della Swenson at Madison.

They farmed most of their married life near Dell Rapids and retired in 1980 when they moved into town. Mrs. Stoefen died January 17, 1990. He moved to Sunny Crest Retirement Village in Sioux Falls in 1991. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Survivors include one son, Ronald of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Terry (Veronica) Buskerud of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Keith (Sandra) Francik of Durango, Colorado; one brother, Merle of Dell Rapids and one sister, Perle Stoefen of Dell Rapids; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids on Tuesday, April 21, 1992, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Lechelt officiating, Linda Johnson was the organist and Ron Peterson was the soloist. Casketbearers were Bob Ellingson, Art Schlaikjer, Ed Sessler, Jim Klein, Don Godsk, Joe Swenson, Alvin Lyng, Keith Rinden and Jim Rinden.

Interment was at Richland Cemetery, Inwood, Iowa, Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids, was in charge of arrangements.
