Rock Rapids, Iowa - Eva Dieters, age 77, of Rock Rapids, died Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Marcia Sangel officiating. Inurnment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.
In lieu of flowers family wishes memorials be directed to Hospice of Lyon County.
Eva Jane Dieters was born October 19, 1936, to George and Esther (Houwen) Pomrenke Sr. in Ashton, Iowa. She was raised on a farm near Ocheydan, Iowa. Eva attended country school and graduated from Ocheydan High School in 1955. She initially attended Iowa State Teachers College later transferring to Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, where she received her teaching certificate.
She later returned to Westmar College, graduating in 1972 with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education. On October 5, 1957 Eva was united in marriage to Carl Dieters, the love of her life. The couple lived their entire married lives in Rock Rapids. She was a teacher at Central Lyon Elementary School where she taught for 32 years, 27 of which were spent teaching 4th grade.
She enjoyed golfing with her husband, reading, cross stitch and card club. She also enjoyed monthly luncheons with other retired teachers. But the most important people in her life were her family. She cherished her three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Eva loved every moment spent with them. She also enjoyed going to and supporting the football teams her son-in-law and grandson coached. This past Saturday Eva passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids after a courageous battle with cancer. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Dieters of Rock Rapids; daughter, Tami (Mike) Breske of Pullman, Washington; grandchildren, Cari (Mike) Culwell of Greeley, Colorado, Adam (Danielle) Breske of Vermillion, South Dakota, Taylor Breske of Grand Junction, Colorado; five great-grandchildren; sister, Elnora (Lawrence) Dirks of Ocheydan, Iowa; brothers, George, (Bonnie) Pomrenke, Jr. of Sibley, Iowa, Gary Pomrenke of Sibley, Iowa, and Glenden (Betty) Pomrenke of Worthington, Minnesota; sister, Erma (Dan) Mairose of LeMars, Iowa; and other extended family members.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents, George and Esther Pomrenke Sr.; son, Kurt Alan Dieters; and sister, Earlene Uden.
