Walter Freed Dies Thursday

Buried at Lester on Monday; Born in Lyon County

Walter Freed, well known Lyon county man, died at his home near Lester Thursday morning, after an extended illness. Immediate cause of death was a hemorrhage, which followed six months illness of Leukemia.

Funeral services were held from the home Monday afternoon, and at Immanuel Lutheran church. The Rev. G. D. A. Engelhardt conducted the services and burial was at Lester Lockwood Funeral home was In charge of the arrangements.

Walter William Freed was born near Rock Rapids on March 2, 1915. He was the son of Jelmer and Anna Freed. The family came to Rock Rapids and Walter graduated from the local high school in 1934. On August 25, 1934, he was united in marriage with Vera Zornig, at Sioux City, where he was attending the Sioux City Beauty Academy, from which he graduated In 1935.

For seven years Mr. and Mrs. Freed operated a beauty salon in Rock Rapids, and they then moved to the farm near Lester, where they have since made their home.

Surviving the deceased are his wife, two children, Darryl and Yvonne, a sister, Mrs. Emil Rockman of Steen and a brother, Elmer, of Rock Rapids.

D.; Mrs. Meta Zornig and Howard, Sioux Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bowe and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bowe of Sheldon; Mr. and Mrs. Victor Bretlman, Cherokee; Mr and Mrs Raymond Anderson and son of Larrabee; Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Smith and daughter, Eleanor, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Larson, and Conrad Smith. Stillwater, Minn.; Mr and Mrs. Walter Frank and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Wiilert, Verdi, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Wittrock, Hardwick, Minn.
