Rock Rapids, Iowa - Lisa Vogel, age 49 of Rock Rapids, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, with Father Bruce Lawler as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 17th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids. There will be a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. that evening.

Lisa Marie Vogel was born on December 21, 1964 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Pat and Dee Dee (Herrig) Hughes. She grew up in Rock Rapids, Iowa and graduated from Central Lyon High School in 1983. Following her graduation she attended Nettleton Business College for two years and then in 2011 she took some online classes from the University of Phoenix and received a degree in Psychology.

On July 10, 1993, Lisa was united in marriage to Jay Vogel at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids. Lisa had two children from a previous marriage, Anthony and Devin Hommes. After Devin’s brain injury she was a caregiver for him for many years. Lisa worked several places throughout her life such as Doohen’s Steak House, Sportsmen’s Lounge, Casey’s and Sunshine Foods until 2012.

She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church and St. Catherine’s Society. Lisa always enjoyed meeting the public, visiting with family and friends; put others always before herself. She liked to cook, knit afghans and enjoyed the challenge of golf. She will be greatly missed.

Lisa is survived by her husband of twenty years, Jay Vogel of Rock Rapids, Iowa; son, Anthony Hommes and fiancé Amanda McCulley of Rock Rapids; mother, Dee Dee Hughes of Rock Rapids; mother-in-law, Barb Vogel of Rock Rapids; sister, Kris (Tom) Gauthier of Cedar Park, Texas; brother, Shannon (Missy) Hughes of Dakota Dunes, SD; and other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Devin Hommes; dad, Pat Hughes; father-in-law, John Vogel; maternal grandparents, Ed and Lorraine Herrig; paternal grandparents, Don and Rosina Hughes; and brother-in-law, Terry Vogel.
