Leo Theodore Menage – March 5, 1920 – February 20, 2007

Leo T. Menage, 86, of Webster City, died Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at Hamilton Hospital at Webster City. His body was donated to Des Moines University.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with the Rev. Scott Boone, presiding. Arrangements were planned with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center at Webster City.

Leo Theodore Menage, son of Johannes and Grace Boomsma Menage, was born March 5, 1920 at Rock Rapids, Iowa. He attended a rural school near Rock Rapids and graduated from Rock Rapids Public school in 1937. For a short time, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. He served in the U.S. Army – Medical Corps aboard the hospital ship U.S.S. Shamrock. Following his discharge, he returned to Rock Rapids and attended Sheldon Junior College where he also played football. He attended University of Colorado where he received a B.A. in History. He started employment with Hormel as a buyer at Austin, MN.

On June 5, 1952, he married Cleone Dorothy Schulte at the Holy Name Catholic Church at Rock Rapids. He continued employment with Hormel at Elmore, MN; Rockwell City and moved to Webster City in 1968. He retired January 1, 1983. Mrs. Menage died May 7, 2005. He continued to reside at Webster City.

Leo is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Karen Menage of Moline, IL; Brian Menage of West Des Moines; John and Sue Menage of Van Horne; grandchildren, Olivia, Alexander and Sarah Menage; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Florence Menage of Rock Rapids; sister and brother-in-law, Tracy and Richard Arett of Fremont, NE; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ida Dell and brother, Peter Menage.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, an Iowa State Fair Board member, enjoyed working in various areas of his church, a member of Diamond K, active in the Democratic Party, socializing and playing golf and he received much enjoyment in traveling.
