Nell (Doherty) Hensing – April 13, 1900 – February 1, 1981

Nell Doherty Hensing, 80 of Omaha, Nebraska and formerly of Des Moines, died Sunday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Alvord Catholic Church in Alvord. Burial will be at the Alvord Cemetery.

Mrs. Hensing was born in Sioux City, Iowa and lived in Omaha since 1969. She was a retired teacher in Las Vegas and New Mexico and was a member of the League of Women’s Voters, Mary out Queen Rosary Society and Army Corps of Engineers Wives.

Survivors include a brother, Lester of Rock Valley; and three stepchildren, including Irene Tan Creti of West Des Moines.

A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Her birth name was actually Ellen Ursula Doherty but she went by Nell or Nellie. She was born April 13, 1900 in Iowa the daughter of Patrick H Doherty and Mary Ann (Ruddy) Doherty.

Her birth record says she was born in Reading Township, but christened in Sioux, Iowa. In 1900 she was living in Las Vegas, San Miguel, New Mexico and wasn’t married yet.

She was buried in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Alvord, Lyon, Iowa, Lot 97 with her parents.
