Barbara Beth Ross was born July 31, 1935 in Doon, Iowa, to Albert and Beulah (Kahl) Ross. She was raised in Doon, Iowa, and graduated from Doon High School. Barb enjoyed the restaurant business and spent nearly her entire life fixing and serving delicious food to her customers and friends.

She began her working career in 1958 at the Corner Café restaurant in Doon, which she later bought and named ‘Barb’s Café’. She then worked at Pete’s Steakhouse in Doon before moving to Rock Rapids in 1988. In Rock Rapids Barb went to work at Sportsman’s and worked there until the fire at which time she retired. Barb attended Doon First United Methodist Church while she lived in Doon. She enjoyed sports very much and was an avid golfer and bowler. She was quite good at both sports and belonged to leagues.
