(July 21, 1937 - April 15, 2014)

Lester, Iowa - Roger John Myrlie, age 76 of Lester, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Prince of Peace Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 19th at Seeds of Faith United Methodist Church in Lester, Iowa, with Pastor Don Nelson and Pastor Todd Schlitter officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Lester.

Visitation will be Friday, April 18th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Seeds of Faith United Methodist Church in Lester, Iowa.

Roger was born July 21, 1937 in Lester, Iowa, the son of John and Emma (Heyer) Myrlie. At a young age, Roger lost his parents and was raised by his aunts and uncles. He lived in Sheldon, Iowa, for a few years with his sister Shirley Jean and her husband before moving back to Lester where he lived with his uncle and aunt Artie and Leona Heyer. He graduated from Lester High School in 1955. Even before graduating from high school, he joined the Air National Guard in Sioux Falls and served 10 years.

On April 26, 1958 Roger was united in marriage to Patricia Giesel at the Lutheran Church in Luverne, Minnesota. Together they lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for two years while Roger worked at Daniels Olsen Building Products. They moved back to Lester, Iowa, while Roger continued to work for Daniels Olsen and in the 1980’s he became part owner. He retired in 2001 after 45 years.

Roger was a member of Seeds of Faith United Methodist Church in Lester, Iowa, active with various church activities. He was a Lester City Council Member, Lester Fire Department Volunteer and very involved for many years with the Lester Fastpitch Softball Team as a coach and player. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, collecting antiques and coins, and especially attending his grandchildren’s activities including watching the West Lyon football and basketball championships this year. The most precious things in life to Roger were his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat Myrlie of Lester, Iowa; three sons: Jeff (wife, Kelly) Myrlie of Lester, Iowa, Scott Myrlie of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Victor (wife, Janet) Myrlie of Lester, Iowa; six grandchildren: Kurtis (wife, Miranda) Myrlie, Kevin (wife, Kali) Myrlie, both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jesse Selgeby of Lester, Iowa, Kelly Myrlie of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kacey Myrlie and Thadd Myrlie, both of Lester, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Hayden-PaPa Roger’s special little man and Kenli-PaPa Roger’s dolly both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; one sister, Elaine (husband, Don) Dolphin of Folsom, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Myrlie; and one sister, Shirley Jean Daniels. Blessed be his memory.
