(April 28, 1985 - March 30, 2014)

Rock Rapids, Iowa - Ryan Gorter, age 28, of Fort Collins, Colorado, and formerly of Rock Rapids, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014, as the result of a motorcycle accident near Fort Collins.

Memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids with Rev. Donald Baker officiating. Inurnment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Doon, Iowa. Family and friends will remain at the funeral home for a time of fellowship following the memorial service and prior to proceeding to the cemetery.

Ryan Michael Gorter was born April 28, 1985 in Rock Rapids, to Michael Glenn Gorter and LeAnn Rae Dirks. He was raised in Rock Rapids and George, Iowa, and graduated from Central Lyon High School. He was known for his caring and generous nature, his love for conversation and meeting new people to add to his family of friends.

Ryan loved Colorado and its mountains. Riding his motorcycle on a beautiful day or snowmobiling in the snowy mountains was something he truly loved. Whenever Ryan was out with his Toyota truck you would also see Rex, his loyal and faithful companion. Ryan was enjoying the day riding his bike through one of his favorite areas, Horse Tooth Reservoir when a tragic accident occurred. Ryan entered this world early and he also left that way.

He is survived by his father, Michael Gorter of Doon, Iowa; mother, LeAnn Krull & step-father, Kevin Krull of Rock Rapids, Iowa; sister, Melissa Jo Gorter of San Diego, California; half-sister, Hailey Gorter of Rock Valley, Iowa; halfbrother, Wyatt Gorter of Rock Valley, Iowa; grandfather, Alfred Dirks of George, Iowa; grandmother, Alvina Davelaar of Doon, Iowa; step-grandparent, Evelyn Olson of Rock Rapids, Iowa; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; Kallie Gorter, mother of Hailey & Wyatt Gorter, of Rock Valley, Iowa; and Ryan’s dog, Rex. Also left to mourn his passing is his family of friends.

Ryan was preceded in death by his grandfather, Herman Gorter and grandmother, Joan Dirks.
