John Wagenaar – October 27, 1917 – September 23, 2007

John Wagenaar, 89, of Hubbard died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007 at his home.

He was born Oct. 27, 1917 at George, IA to Hummo and Tina (Jurrens) Wagenaar. He attended school at Adrian. He was inducted into the US Army in April 1941, serving in the Air Corps. He was a veteran of World War II and was stationed in England.

He married Amanda Heaven Feb. 16, 1944 at Ringwood, England. After the war, they moved to Magnolia and rented a farm until 1950. They moved to Sioux Falls, SD and later to a farm near Adrian until 1957. Following a trip to England, they purchased a farm near Park Rapids. He retired at age 62, but continued to live on the farm.

He is survived by seven children, Frank (Maggie) Heaven of Normandy, France, John A. (Marge) Wagenaar of Nevis, Jill (Len) Fyhrie of Sauk Rapids, Paul (Joanne) Wagenaar of Wyoming, MN, Peter (Rebecca) Wagenaar of Port St. Lucy, FL, Philip Wagenaar of Vancouver, British Columbia, Susan (Fred) Heaven of Taylors Falls; two brothers, Ubbe (Erma) of Adrian and Tony (Janet) of Garretson, SD; two sisters, Elizabeth (Bernard) Fursee of Sioux Falls, SD and Anna Mess of LuVerne; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Brian; two brothers and six sisters.

Funeral: Friday, Sept. 28 at Nevis Church of Christ with Rev. Barry P. Klein officiating.
Honorary casketbearers: Graham, Mindy and Lorraine Heaven, Melainie Chaney, Paula Inman, Dawn, Falycia and Melissa Wagenaar, Denise and Jessica Fyhrie, Ewart and Louise Schosfield, Sasha Welle, Bob J. Johansen and Lisa McCleary.

Active casketbearers: James and Michael Fyhrie, Julian Welle, Mathew, Andrew, Christopher and Spencer Wagenaar, Brent Kent and Richard McCleary.
Interment: Lakeview Cemetery of Nevis.
