Inwood, Iowa - Alvera Rosgaard, 94, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the Fellowship Village in Inwood.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Redeemer Free Lutheran Church in Canton, South Dakota, with Rev. Perry Bauer and Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial will be prior to the service at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Fairview, South Dakota. Visitation with the family will be 6:30-8:00 p.m., Thursday at the Porter Funeral Home in Inwood, Iowa. Alvera Doreen (Groon) Rosgaard was born February 17, 1919 in Union County, South Dakota daughter of Henry and Sophia (Fickbohm) Groon. After completing her education through the eighth grade, she cared for many children andworked at the bakery and cafe in Canton. She worked at the Canton-Inwood Hospital from 1947-1953 and during that time she attained her LPN certification. On September 9, 1953, Alvera was united in marriage to Richard Floyd Rosgaard and to this union three children were born, Joy, Joel, and Lauren.

Alvera found fulfillment in teaching Sunday School, attending Bible Studies, memorizing poems, long walks and coffees with her good friends, and writing notes and cards. She loved all children dearly, and has made an impression on many.

Grateful for sharing her life are her children, Joy Gieseke of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, Joel (Jean) Rosgaard, Lauren (Carol) Rosgaard all of Rock Valley; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Olsen of Canton, South Dakota; sister-in-laws, Irene Groon of Brookings, South Dakota, and Jean Groon, of Supply NC; many nieces and nephews.

Alvera was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Sophia Groon; husband, Richard; siblings, Darlene Klostergaard, Herbert Groon, Bernice Johnson, Emil Groon, Gerald Groon, and Melvina Aasheim.
