Lenore Beatrice Monen, 96, died Monday, April 22, 2013. Funeral services were Friday, April 26 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, rural Inwood, Iowa.
Lenore was born March 17, 1917 on the family farm near Canton, South Dakota, to Ole and Gunhild (Orstad) Aasheim. She married Gidvert Monen in July 1944 at the Arkota Ballroom in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Lenore worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Stenber and later at McKennan Hospital and then Sioux Valley Hospital until Gidvert had a stroke. She then tended to him. After he died, Lenore worked at Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, retiring at age 83.
She is survived by her children, Vivian LaRoche of Sioux Falls, Verne Monen, and Roger (Cheryl) Monen of Lester, Iowa; her step-son, Gene of Portland, Oregon; her sister, Lillian Hanson of Canton, South Dakota; 15 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Lenore was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Loren; grandson, Jordan; and five siblings, Walter, Henry, Esther Mydland, Alma VanBockern, and Gladys VanderMeer.
