Delbert Edward Kanengieter – August 18, 1931 – April 13, 2007

Delbert E. Kanengieter, age 75, passed away on April 13, 2007 at his home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Delbert was born on August 18, 1931 in rural Little Rock, IA to Andrew and Grace (Dreesen) Kanengieter. He was united in marriage to Margery Brouwer in George, IA on November 28, 1952. He farmed for nearly 30 years in the Little Rock area until moving to Sioux Falls in 1980, where he worked for First Rate Excavate until his retirement.

Delbert and Margery loved going to their children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Sioux Falls. Delbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, doing projects around the homes of his children and grandchildren and was known for growing large tomatoes.

Delbert’s kindness, patience, humbleness, graciousness and knowledge will forever be cherished.

Grateful for sharing his life are his son, Daniel Kanengieter, of Sioux Falls and Ronald (Becky) Kanengieter, of Renner, SD; daughters, Cathy (Marty) Klaassen, of George, IA and Christine (Lynn) Clayton, of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren, Josh, Jeremy and Lindsey Klaassen, Michelle Eckert, Conrad, Tanya and Gwen Kanengieter, Stacie Peters and Megan Nicolai; brothers, Andrew (Earlene) Kanengieter, of Sheldon, IA, Elmer (Barb) Kanengieter, of Little Rock, IA and Everon (Joyce) Kanengieter, of Little Rock, IA; and sisters, Luella (Elmer) Jager, of Sheldon, IA, Gracie (Rev. Ray) Willemssen, of Sioux Falls, Arlene (Don) Rickabaugh, of Sioux Falls and Erma Winter, of Sibley, IA.

Delbert’s wife, Margery, preceded him in death on December 9, 2006. Also preceding him in death are his parents, Andrew and Grace (Dreesen) Kanengieter; and sisters, Dena Kruse, Janet Heitbrink, Helen Dammer and Mattie Harms.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held after 3 pm on Sunday, April 15th with Delbert’s family present to greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Miller West Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am on Monday at Trinity Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, with interment at 2:00 pm at the Boyden-Sheridan Township Cemetery, Boyden, IA.
