John W Viereck – July 20, 1928 – August 18, 2002

John Viereck was born July 20, 1928 at Larchwood, IA to Fred and Alma (Benning) Viereck. He grew up in Larchwood where he received his education, graduating from High School in 1947. Following high school, John entered the US Air Force. He attained the rank of Corporal and received his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1950.

He was married to Lois Torkelson on July 1, 1950 in Luverne, MN.

Upon returning from the Air Force, he worked for the Gas Company in Sioux Falls, Centerville, SD, and Luverne, MN. In 1966, he began his career as an appliance salesman for Sears. He worked for Sears for 36 years, retiring on June 1, 1997. Following retirement, he worked for Frankman Motors. His wife, Lois, preceded him in death on August 1, 1996.

He married Kathleen Lemmon on February 8, 2000 in Laughlin, NV.

John was a member of East Side Lutheran Church, a past member of Rotary, a member of the Centerville Masonic Lodge and the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department, and was currently a member of the Moose Lodge. John loved being with his family, and enjoyed repairing things for his family and many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, of Sioux Falls; his children, Jeffrey Viereck and his wife, Glenda, of Hartford, SD, Jan Viereck and his wife, Cally, of Brandon, SD, James Viereck and his wife, Lori, of Hartford, SD, Suzanne Anderson and her husband, Stuart, of Upland, CA, and Denise Bruland and her husband, Tony, of Albion, NE; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five step children; 13 step grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; one sister, Evelyn Heyer and her husband, Ed, of George, IA; two brothers, Frank Viereck and his wife, Georgia, of Hartford, SD, and Don Viereck, also of Hartford, SD.

In addition to his first wife, Lois, he was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ed, Roy, Walt, Harold and Fritz; and his sisters, Verna Forthun, Eva Slayton, Irene Schumann and Alice Love.
