Donald James Viereck – March 2, 1926 – January 19, 2010

Donald J. Viereck, 83 of Hartford, died, Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls. He was born March 2, 1926 in Larchwood, IA, on the family farm and was one of 13 children.

After attending school he farmed and was in the U. S. Navy for a short time and received an honorable discharge in 1944. In 1947 he was married to Donna Jones and they had 4 children.

Later he married Georgia Safar and had one child.

In 1975 he married Marge Croisant and was later divorced.

During his life he worked various jobs including Morrells, farming, home improvement, Wall Lake Sanitary and driving school bus for West Central and Tri Valley Schools. Don was a hard worker and would do anything for anybody. He enjoyed getting together with his friends and family and having a goodtime - he had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his 3 children, Kathy (Allen) Rippentrop, Tea, SD, Mark Viereck, Rapid City, and Linda Carmon, Sioux Falls; 9 grandchildren, Julie (Jason) Willis, Stacie (Paul) Doman Bennett, Kelly (Patty) Viereck, Sara (Mark) Fraser, Joell (Brad) Haass, Jenirose (Matt) Tirevold, Miranda Carmon, Walker Carmon, Jordan Williams and 14 great grandchildren, a sister, Evelyn (Ed) Heyer, George, IA and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers, 4 sisters, a son, Grant Viereck and a daughter, Robin Niedermyer. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23 at Heritage Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service.
