Henry "Hank" Niemyer

January 15, 1936 - January 17, 2013

George, Iowa - Henry “Hank” Niemyer, age 77, of George, died unexpectedly, Thursday January 17, 2013, at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, with Reverend Dale Lint officiating. Visitation will be Monday, January 21st from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Henry Niemyer was born on January 15, 1936, the son of Walter “Wubbe” and Hendrika (Van Grootheest) Niemeyer near Larchwood, Iowa. He grew up on a farm near Larchwood, known as the "Peacock Ranch" and also Doon, Iowa area. In 1954, Hank enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served for four years. Following his time in the military he was united in marriage to Samantha Kramer on April 1, 1960 in Denver, CO. The couple lived in Denver for a couple months and then moved to Doon, Iowa for a time. They then moved to Aurelia, Iowa, where their three sons, Marc, Scott and Jade were raised.

After their boys were out of school they moved to Cherokee, Iowa. During the time they lived in Aurelia and Cherokee, Hank worked for the Wilson Meat Packing Plant. After several years in Cherokee the couple moved to George, Iowa, where Hank worked for the City of George.

Hank enjoyed carpentry and built their home here in George, with the help of his brother-in-law, Jim Keizer. He loved all sports and could be seen at the George High School girls and boys sporting events. He was also a big fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers. Hank liked to fish in his early years, and liked to watch the weather channel. He especially enjoyed woodworking, gardening and landscaping, and was always meticulous about doing the best job, no matter how long it took.

Hank is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Samantha Niemyer of George, Iowa; three sons, Marc (Rebecca) Niemyer of Phoenix, AZ, Scott (Karen) and their twin boys, Jesse and Garrett Niemyer of Andover, NH, and Jade (Angie) and their three children, Trey, and twins, Bailie and Delanie Niemyer of Orange City, Iowa; one sister, Theo (Dick) Keizer of Doon, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Bill and Gerrit Niemeyer and Grace Keizer.
