Ben Kracht – April 27, 1927 – December 7, 2010

Ben Kracht, 83, Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Larchwood, Iowa, died Tuesday Dec. 7, 2010, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral service was Saturday, Dec. 11, at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home in Urbandale, Iowa. A graveside service was Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Hillside Cemetery in Lester, Iowa.

Ben Kracht was born to Peter and Grace (Flier) Kracht on April 27, 1927, in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He grew up near Rock Rapids on the family farm and attended country school. He was a lifelong farmer and was able to live on the farm until July 2010. He then moved to Beaverdale Estates in Des Moines.

Mr. Kracht is survived by a daughter, Pam Kracht, Urbandale; four granddaughters, Jordyn, Paige "Cari", Kennedy and Sydnee Kracht, all of Urbandale; two brothers, John Kracht, Steen, and Bert "Bud" (Theodora) Kracht, Beaver Creek; a sister, Alice (Bernie) Cosgrove, O'Fallon, Mo.; and a special niece, Julie Lickey, Gresham, Ore.

Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Rens Kracht; his parents, Peter and Grace (Flier) Kracht; two sisters, Jenny Schouwenberg and Hattie Top; 12 year-old brother Bert and sister-in-law Anna Mae.
