Arend Folkens, age 81 of Lester, IA died Sunday, Mar. 28, 2010, at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wed., March 31st at Seeds of Faith Methodist Church at Lester, IA.
Visitation will be Tues. Mar. 30th from 2:00 - 8:30 p.m. with family present from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and again from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Seeds of Faith Methodist Church in Lester. Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Arend Folkens was born January 1, 1929 in Rock Rapids, Lyon, Iowa, the son of John Folkens and Alice (Boonstra) Folkens.

He married Darlene Mae Kuhl, the daughter of George Kuhl and Frances (Popma) Kuhl. She died May 13, 2003 and was buried in the Hillside Cemetery, Lester, Lyon, Iowa.

Survivors; two sons, John of Lester and Steve of Larchwood; two daughters, Mrs. Lynn (Elsie) Anderson of Hudson, S.D., and Mrs. Greg (Lori) Popkes of Rock Rapids; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren (survivors are from his wife’s obit)
