Inwood, Iowa - Amelia Roemen, age 89 of Inwood, Iowa, died Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 10th, 2012 at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery at Lester.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 9th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family present at the Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall in Lester.

Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Amelia Fredericka Roemen

Inwood, Iowa -- Amelia Roemen, age 89 of Inwood, died Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 10th, 2012 at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery at Lester.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 9th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family present at the Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall in Lester.

Amelia Fredericka Roemen was born January 9, 1923 in Larchwood, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Maria (Knobloch) Wulf. She was raised in Larchwood and received her education in a one room school house near Larchwood. As a youngster, Amelia received the “Best Speller Award”. On April 12, 1947 she was united in marriage to Edward Roemen in Rock Rapids, Iowa. To this union 12 children were born. The couple farmed and raised livestock near Larchwood for thirty-eight years.

She and her husband became members of the Apostolic Christian Church in 1979. In 1987 Amelia and Edward moved to Inwood, Iowa. Amelia was a housewife and mother most of her life. At the age of 65 she began working at the Inwood locker and shortly after took a second job at Fellowship Village Nursing Home in Inwood and worked as a dietary aide. She retired at age 86. She enjoyed puzzle making, crocheting doilies, playing games and making German Chocolate cake for special people. Mostly, She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. This past Thursday, Amelia passed away at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She will be greatly missed.

Amelia is survived by her children, Marlene Tullar of Orange City, Iowa; Marvin (Joyce) Roemen of Fairfield, Iowa; Ella Bartels of Canton, South Dakota; Leonard (Donna) Roemen of Castle Rock , CO; Dean Roemen of Garretson, South Dakota; Roy (Susan) Roemen of Osceola, Arkansas; David Roemen of Parker, CO; Glenn Roemen of Renner, South Dakota; Sheila (John) Feekes of Plattsburg, Missouri; Terry (Jana) Roemen of Ceylon, Minnesota; Les (Linda) Roemen of Larchwood, Iowa; and Nettie Roemen of Larchwood; 28 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred (Virgil) Sauder of Morris, Minnesota; Leah Doornweerd of Beaver Creek, Minnesota; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Edward Roemen; daughters-in-law, Katheryn Roemen, Carol Roemen; son-in-law, Frank Tullar; siblings, Emil Wulf, Willhelm Wulf, Jacob Wulf, Leonard Wulf, Lawrence Wulf, Emma Wulf, Karoline Doorneweerd and Marilyn Luthi.
