Robert Leonard Sullivan – January 25, 1895 – May 15, 1969

SERVICES HELD MONDAY AT Alvord for long time resident of area

Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o’clock for a long time resident of the Alvord area, Robert L. Sullivan Sr. Sullivan died Thursday at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of 74. He had been in failing health and death was attributed to a stroke.

The services were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Alvord with Father Jerome Loutsch officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Porter Funeral Home of Inwood. Bearers were Roy Gryson, Er Devitt, Clarence Flanagen, GeorgeMcCarty, Ray Kramer and Joe Vint.

Robert L Sullivan Sr., was born at Carmel on January 25, 1895, a son of Martin and Ellen (Barth) Sullivan. He moved to the Alvord area with his family in 1900, at the age of five year. He grew up in the Alvord area and on January 30, 1918, he married Mary Duffy at Alvord.

The couple moved to Worthing, South Dakota, where they lived for nine years. In 1927 they returned to the Alvord area where Sullivan spent the rest of his life on a farm just outside of Alvord. He farmed all of his life.

Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Rita, Mrs. P. O. Lewandowski of Alvord; two sons; Joseph of Sioux Falls and Robert of Alvord; a brother, John; and a sister Clara Sullivan, both of Alvord and nine grandchildren.
