Violet Martha (Warkenthien) Kruse – September 17, 1932 – February 16, 2002

OBIT:

Violet Martha Warkenthien, daughter of Harry and Martha (Waldow) Warkenthien, was born on the family farm near Willow Lake, SD on September 17, 1932. She grew up and attended country school near Willow Lake. Violet graduated from Willow Lake High School and then attended business college in Huron, SD. She moved to Sioux Falls, SD and was employed at Wilson Transportation.

Violet was united in marriage with Walter Lewis Kruse on August 22, 1954 in Willow Lake. The couple farmed near Inwood, IA, Larchwood, IA, Arlington, SD and Badger, SD. After her husband's death, Violet moved back to Sioux Falls. She established her own daycare and continued doing daycare until her health forced her retirement in 1993. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, and reading, especially her Bible.

She was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church. Violet served as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible school teacher, girl and boy scout leader, and was active in church circle.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two children, Lynn Kruse and his wife, Roxy, Omaha, NE, Nancy Brockshus and her husband, Larry, Woodbridge, VA; four grandchildren, Adam Brockshus, Omaha, NE, Beth Brockshus, Minneapolis, MN, Kristine and Richard Kruse, both of Omaha, NE; three sisters, Kathleen McHenry, Clark, SD, Wilma Vander Linden and her husband, Robert, Sheldon, IA, Alma Bauman and her husband, Robert, Clark, SD; three brothers, Martin Warkenthien, Willow Lake, SD, Donald Warkenthien and his wife, Helen, Willow Lake, SD, Roger Warkenthien and his wife, Donette, Clark, SD; 16 nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in March of 1960; a son in infancy; her parents; two brothers, Lyle and Marvin; and a sister, Fern Loewen.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be directed to Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund.
