Obituary: Inwood, IA: Jacob "Jake" Burgers, 85, died Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Fellowship Village, Inwood. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday at Inwood Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be at Richland Cemetery, Inwood. Reverend Robert Timmer will officiate. Visitation will be Monday, beginning at 2-4:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Inwood and continue with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the church.

Jacob "Jake" Burgers was born January 18, 1918 to Derek and Celia (Hinekamp) Burgers in Bennekom, Netherlands. He attended school in the Netherlands. Jake was united in marriage to Gesena "Tena" Kizebrink on July 10, 1947 in the Netherlands. They immigrated to the United States in 1948 where they began farming in northwest Iowa. Tena died July 28, 1968.

Jake moved to Rock Valley in 1970 where he worked at Roorda's Manufacturing. Jake was united in marriage to Clarene Vander Plaats on June 17, 1972 in Holland, MN. They lived near Luverne, MN until moving to Inwood in 1979 where he worked for John's Welding and Schoeneman's Lumber. Jake retired in 1986 and repaired bikes and spent time woodworking until Alzheimers entered his life. Jake moved to Hudson Health Care, Hudson, SD in 2005 and then to Fellowship Village, Inwood in November of 2007. He was a member of Inwood Christian Reformed Church, where he served as elder and was past member of the Men's Society. Jake enjoyed playing board games with his grandchildren.

Jake is survived by his wife, Clarene Burgers of Inwood; sons: Dick (Muriel) Burgers of Milaca, MN, John (Bonnie) Burgers of Lester, IA and Jack (Dena) Burgers of Hinton, IA; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers: Dick Burgers of Doon, IA and Gilbert (Wilma) Burgers of Rock Valley, IA; sister, Minnie De Man of Storm Lake, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gesena "Tena" Burgers; infant daughter, Catherine Burgers; sisters: Neeltje Willemsen, Aaltje Van Holland and Tillie Van Holland.
