Albert De Yager was born on September 13, 1928 near Orange City, Iowa to Sam and Ida (Gerritson) De Yager. Albert married Minnie De Roon in Lebanon, Iowa. They farmed west of Lebanon for 12 years on Minnie’s parents’ farm. A move was made later four miles east of Inwood, Iowa where Albert and Minnie farmed for 20 years. In addition to farming, Albert enjoyed selling real estate and doing auctioneering for 41 years, a business which he loved because he enjoyed visiting and dealing with people. Albert and Minnie moved to their retirement home in the town of Inwood in 1979 where they have lived for 33 years.

Albert was part of the Hope Haven Board for many years, served on the Inwood Christian School Finance Board, served on the Western Christian High School Finance Committee, and enjoyed working with the businesses of the Inwood Commercial Club. Albert also very much enjoyed Inwood Christian Reformed Church Men’s Society.

Albert was very involved in establishing the Inwood Men’s Club where the men of the community 55 years and older can spend time together, play pool and cards. Albert also was an avid fan of Western Christian High School Boys’ Basketball, attending almost all basketball games.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie, a loving and supportive marriage partner for 65 years. Albert and Minnie have two daughters, Jeanette (Harold) Vanden Burg of Tea, South Dakota and Arlene Haverhals of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; three sons, Peter (Betsy) De Yager of Hull, Iowa, Stan (Diane) De Yager of Seattle Washington, and Kevin De Yager of Peoria, Arizona. Albert has one sister, Tracy (Gerrit) Byker of Sioux Center, Iowa; one brother Junior (Ann) De Yager of Inwood, Iowa; sister-in-law, Marlene De Yager of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 15 grandchildren/spouses, Carmen (Tim) Griess of Loveland, Colorado, Cameron Vanden Burg and Karman of Tea, South Dakota, Chane (Julie) Vanden Burg of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Bridget De Yager of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Gabriel (Kristi) De Yager of Rock Valley, Iowa, Noah (Susan) De Yager of Hull, Iowa, Shaun (Courtney) De Yager of Renton, Washington, Matthew (Melissa) De Haan of Happy Valley, Oregon, Natasha De Yager of Seattle, Washington, Brett De Yager of Seattle Washington, Stephanie (Nathan) Groon of New Prague, Minnesota, Kelly (Katie) Haverhals of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jennifer and Jessica Haverhals, twin sisters of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Nicolaas De Yager of Peoria, Arizona, a very special adopted grandchild. Also, 20 great-grandchildren.

Welcoming Albert in heaven early on Monday morning were God Himself, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit; his parents, Sam and Ida De Yager; two brothers, Gerrit De Yager of Artesia California and Bill De Yager of Steen, Minnesota; sister, Irene who died on earth at 11 years of age; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary Griess of Loveland, Colorado, and Zachary De Yager of Renton, Washington.
