Benola Pettengill, 84, of Denver, Colo., died Oct. 21, 2003.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Nov. 8, at Fairmont Ivy Chapel, Denver, and Saturday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Rock Rapids, with inurnment in Riverview Cemetery.

Benola Metzger was born May 4, 1919, in Lester, the daughter of Benjamin and Lena (Kellenberger) Metzger. After her father's death, she was adopted by her mother's husband, Herman Warner. She grew up and attended school near Lester. She received a teaching certificate from Iowa Teachers College and taught in country schools.
In June 1941, she married Leon Pettengill. They lived in Rock Rapids, later moving to Rochester, Minn. For the past 20 years, she has lived in Denver.

Survivors include two sons, Terry of Mill Valley, Calif., and Jon of Sebastopol, Calif; one daughter, Bonnie Slothower of Denver; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Mervin Warner of Larchwood, and one sister, Alvina Van Wyhe of Hills, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
