Arthur Knobloch

(December 24, 1928 - August 15, 2012)

Arthur Knobloch, age 83 of Lester, Iowa died Wednesday August 15, 2012, at the Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 20th at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery at Lester.

Arthur Elmer Knobloch was born December 24, 1928 at Alvord, Iowa, to Jacob and Lydia (Traub) Knobloch. He attended country school at Logan #6 through the eighth grade. He moved to West Bend, Iowa and farmed there for several years before he was drafted into the Korean Conflict, going through basic training at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas and served as a medic at Ft. Lewis in Washington.

He returned to Lyon County to farm and was actively involved in his family’s farming operation until a couple of years ago. He enjoyed farming, raising grain and beef cattle and was known to comment that ‘farming is all I know.’

He was a faithful member of the Apostolic Christian Church since 1954. On May 11, 1969 he married his brother Edwin’s widow, Elgeva (Kellenberger) Knobloch. He adopted their children and loved them as his own.

On September 3, 1970 one son was born to their union, Loren Arthur. On July 28, 1978 Arthur was hurt in a major farm accident and quietly bore the effects of the accident the rest of his life.

On March 17, 1990 his son, Loren, was killed in an auto accident. In 1994 Art and Elgeva retired from the farm to Lester Retirement Village. After moving to town he enjoyed helping out at the farm, wood working, leather tooling and gardening. On August 15, 2012, Arthur passed from this life into eternity while surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years and his children, Carolyn (Dale) Hartzler of Rittman, OH; Shirley (Robert) DeSmet of Alvord, Iowa; Donna (Michael) Barber of Sioux Falls, SD; Vern (Chalea) Knobloch of Alvord, Iowa and Linda (Brad) Klostergaard of Beresford, SD; 26 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Matilda (Elmer) Fehr of West Bend, Iowa; Dena (Calvin)Weiss of Sabetha, KS; Gladys Knobloch of Rock Rapids, Iowa; Betty (Clarence) Dietrich of Salem, Oregon, and one brother, Dale (Mary) Knobloch of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his son, Loren; his parents; three brothers, Edwin, Nathan and Orvie; and two sisters, Eunice Knobloch and Ella Mae (Eugene) Schmidt.
