Ogene Monen, 87, of Boyden died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at the veterans' hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services were Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, rural Inwood, with interment in the church cemetery.

Mr. Monen was born March 21, 1916, near Inwood, the son of Alfred and Anna (Danielson) Monen. He served in the army during World War II from 1942-45. He then was a mechanic at an Inwood car dealership and farmed a few years. In 1956 he began working for Younglove Construction building cement grain elevators in the Midwest.

On Dec. 19, 1958, he married Ann Gorter in Sheldon. They lived in California and Colorado before moving to Boyden in 1974 when he worked for Weigel Construction until retiring in 1978.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James of Olive Hurst, Calif., and Larry of Boyden; two daughters, Linda Bolyard of Spencer and Pamela Keizer of Kearney, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lyle of Canton, S.D., and one sister, Mrs. LaRoy (adeline) Peters of Sioux Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Patricia Mase; one great-grandson, Michael Van Lo; two brothers, Norman and Alfred "Bud," and three sisters, Eileen Ver Wey, Marge Freese and Viva Monen.
