Simon Severson was born May 2, 1868 in Winneshiek County, Iowa. When one year old he came with his parents to Lyon county and settled on the banks of the Big Sioux river.

Funeral services where held on Monday Oct. 25, from the Omar Severson home and Our Saviors Lutheran church with Pastor B. H. J. Habel officiating. Burial was in the cemetery near the church.

On September 6, 1984 he was united in marriage to Karoline Skotheien. Five children were born to them. Simon Severson farmed for 34 years in Centennial township. He retired in 1934 and moved to Inwood, where he resided for eight years. He died at a Sioux Falls hospital October 6. Surviving are four children: Adolph of Harrisburg, S.D.; Mrs. Harold Madland of Columbus Junction, Iowa; Omar Severson and Mrs. Bert Thompson of Inwood; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
