(June 11, 1928 - March 17, 2011)
Marlo M. Bahnson, age 82 of Rock Rapids, IA died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.
Memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 28, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids with Pastor Anita Bane officiating.
Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, with full military honors by the Van Anne-Fields VFW Post No. 6960 and the Rex Strait American Legion Post No. 103 of Rock Rapids.

Marlo M. Bahnson was born in Inwood, Iowa, the son of Merlin and Verda (Kroger) Bahnson-Sipma. At age of 7 years, Marlo’s father suddenly died and he and his mother moved to Sioux City, IA and later Rock Rapids, IA. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1948.

In June of 1948 he entered the U. S. Marines Corps. He was married to Dorothy Meyer in March of 1951 and later divorced. In June of 1952 Marlo was honorably discharged from service and he returned to Rock Rapids. In 1953 he married Gladys "Johnie" Johnson.

Then Marlo attended a twelve month program at Milwaukee School of Engineering and returned home where went into partnership with his step-father, Richard Sipma. He co-owned and operated Sipma Electric for 22 years before transferring to Rock Rapids in 1972, where he continued with Sipma Electric. In 1990’s he worked at Coast to Coast in Rock Rapids until his retirement in 2000.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, the Rex Strait Post No. 103, American Legion in Rock Rapids. He also was a past member of Shriners, and the Masons. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, painting, and building airplane models. He also was very familiar with computer. His daughter will remember him as always being supportive through the years.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Bahnson-Huffman of Portland, OR; a brother, Rick Sipma of Spirit Lake, IA; and nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Bahnson and Verda Bahnson-Sipma; and step-father, Richard Sipma.
