Merry Peterson

(May 7, 1951 - July 28, 2011)

Merry Peterson, age 60 of Rock Rapids, Iowa died Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Memorial service will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011 at Christian Church (Disciples) in Rock Rapids, Iowa with Pastor Carolyn Salberg officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.

Merry Jean (Anderson) Peterson was born in Hawarden, Iowa, on May 7, 1951 the daughter of Carl and Ione (Powell) Anderson. After living by Alcester, So. Dak., Lake Benton, Minnesota and Merrill, Iowa, she grew up in Hawarden, Iowa. She graduated from West Sioux Community High School in 1969.

On December 29, 1969 she was united in marriage to David L. Peterson of Alsen, So. Dak., at Rock Valley, Iowa. They lived in Alsen for several years before moving to McCook Lake, So. Dak. until divorced in 1987.

In 1989 she moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa taking a job at Rock Rapids Health Centre to be closer to her sister Linda. Then unable to work she lived in low income housing the last several years.

She was in and out of the hospital the last 3 months ending in Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. There after a brief stay, she passed away July 28th. Merry enjoyed drawing, painting and crocheting making many gifts for family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Peterson of Sioux City, Iowa and daughter, Serina Peterson of Okinawa, Japan; two sisters, Linda (Paul) Ageson of Lester, Iowa and Betty (Lowell) Knobloch of Larchwood, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

Merry was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ione Anderson.
