Frank Dieren, 91, of Rock Rapids died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Services were Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in Riverview Cemetery.

Mr. Dieren was born Aug. 11, 1911, at Heyst Aan Zee, Belgium, the son of Theophiel and Marie (Oosterlynck) Van Dierendonck. When he was 7, the family came to the United States. He grew up and attended school in northwest Iowa.

On Aug. 23, 1936, he married Alma Winter in Sioux Falls, S.D. They farmed in the Lester and Larchwood areas before moving to a farm near Steen, Minn., where they farmed 20 years.
His wife died March 16, 1991. In the fall of 1991, he moved to Rosewood Heights in Rock Rapids. In 2001, he moved to Premier Estates Assisted Living in Rock Rapids. On March 19, 2002, he became a resident of Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He played and collected harmonicas, played piano and accordion and was a trustee at Peace Lutheran Church many years.

Survivors include four sons, Laurence of Millersville, Md., Dean of International Falls, Minn., Gary of Rock Rapids and David of Brandon, S.D.; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Paul Dieren and Louis Van Dierendonck, and one sister, Elsie Van De Voorde.
