Clarence Marra, age 84 of George, Iowa died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the George Good Samaritan Center. Services were held Saturday, January 16th, at Zoar Presbyterian Church of George, IA with burial in the Zoar Presbyterian Cemetery at George.

Clarence Marra was born February 15, 1925, on farm north of Sioux Center, Iowa, the son of Teunis and Rena (Doeksen) Marra. He attended country school along with helping with the day to day operation of the family farm.

In his early 20’s Clarence entered the U.S. Army Air Corp and served honorably until his discharge. He returned back home to Iowa and married Esther Schortinghuis in 1950. To this union five children were born, Larry, Dennis, Daryl, Rhonda and Kevin. Clarence worked various jobs in the area such as meat cutter at the Rock Rapids Butcher Shop, a farm hand, drove truck and worked as a mechanic. In 1972 Clarence began working for Sudenga Industries until retiring in 1991. He then started working at Kruse Manufacturing.

He was united in marriage to Carol Klingenberg, on June 12, 1982, at Zoar Presbyterian Church. They made their home in George and raised their family of three children, Nicholas, Amber and Jessica. In 1992 Clarence returned to Sudenga Industries where he worked the remainder of his life. Clarence enjoyed working his garden, puzzles, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. He also enjoyed small drives around the area with his wife, Carol. Clarence was a member of the Zoar Presbyterian Church of George. On September 20, 2007 Clarence’s wife, Carol died at the age of forty-nine, after 25 years of marriage. He remained working at Sudenga until this past week, when he died at the George Good Samaritan Center, after a brief illness.

He is survived by his four children with Esther, Larry (wife, Cindy) Marra of George, IA, Dennis Marra of Murray, UT, Daryl Marra of Sioux Falls, SD and Rhonda (husband, Larry) Anderson of Hospers, IA; three children with Carol, Nicholas Marra of George; Amber and Jessica Marra of Mankato, MN; five grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Goodfellow of Plymouth, MN and Dorothy Franken of La Mirada, CA; one brother, Ted (wife, Nelvern) Marra of Sanborn, IA; mother-in-law, Arlis Klingenberg of George; one sister-in-law, Luella Marra of Wayne, NE; along with many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Marra; parents, Teunis and Rena Marra; one son, Kevin Marra; and two brothers, Wilmar and William “Bill” Marra.
