Ethel Thiessen, 71, of Alvord died Tuesday in a nursing home in Rock Rapids.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Christ Lutheran church in Alvord. The Rev. Ann Webb officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Thiessen, the former Ethel Klein, was born May 17, 1912, in Lyon County. She married Henry Thiessen February 22, 1940. They farmed in the Alvord area until his death in 1962. She entered the Lyon Manor Care Center December 31, 1983.

Survivors include two sons, Don of Alvord and Ken of Rock Rapids; two daughters, Carolyn Thiessen of Kansas City, Missouri, and Diane Thiessen of Cedar Falls, three brothers, Loren of Rock Valley, Iven of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Earl of Alvord; three sisters, Mrs. Emil (Clara) Hanzen of Inwood, Mrs. Harold (Alma) Crooks of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Ed (Dorothy) Warwick of Canton, South Dakota, and three grandchildren.
