Mr. Jacobs’ illness and death came while his wife was recovering from an operation at the Hull hospital. Mrs. Jacobs returned to George on Saturday.

Following is the obituary as read at the services:

Lawrence Eugene Jacobs was born on a farm two miles north of George on February 3, 1901, the sixth child in a family of seven children of whom one died in infancy. He grew to manhood in this vicinity, attending the rural school and the local high school, graduating with the class of 1919.

After completing high school, he attended the business college at Mankato, Minnesota, graduating in 1920. Having completed a course in buiness training he took a position with the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway Company, working in the office of that company in Montevideo, Minnesota. Some time later he ended his association with the railway company and accepted a position in the bank at Ellsworth, Minnesota.

In 1921 he retired from the bank position and accepted a position with the post office department of the nation, becoming a rural mail carrier, which position he held to the time of his death.

On June 9, 1925 he was united in marriage with Miss Esther Marten of Adrian, Minnesota. After an extensive wedding trip they returned to George and settled amoug the citizens to take their place in the affairs of life. Their marriage was the origin of two children, a daughter and a son. About eight years ago, he became affected with heart trouble, which caused him much distress and great suffering. For a long period he was unable to work and was confined to his bed and to his home. He did, however, regain enough strength and was well enough to attend to his duties of his mail route.

The heart attack was so severe that in spite of medical treatment, he never fully recovered from it. He had intervals when the trouble reacted, distressing him very much.

Later in life he became anemic which weakened the vitality of his body considerably more and made him all the more susceptible to physical disorder. On Thursday, February 3, on his birthday, he contracted the flu which, in spite of temder care on the part of his brothers and sisters (his wife being in the hospital recovering from an operation) and in spite of medical care and treatmen he developed pneumonia. For this he was given the best of treatment which at first seemed to bring results. But, this was followed by a relapse on Monday of last week at midnight. On Tuesday forenoon he was taken to the hospital, where his wife was a patient. There he was given the best of professional attention, care and treatment. His physical resistance became lower and lower due to toxic absorption which claimed him on February 11 (1938), at 1:05 AM, attaining the age of 37 years and 8 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, the two children, Barbara age 10 and Les, age 7. Furthermore, he leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Jacobs, 2 sisters, Syliva at home with the parents in George, Elva, Mrs. Franklin Johnson of Doon, the 3 brothers, Orval and Elra of George, and Glen of Rock Rapids. Besides these he leaves other relatives and friends, the co-workers in the local mail service, the partrons on his mail route.
